Our rehabilitation psychology team works with patients in a number of ways to facilitate adjustment to illness, hospitalization, and disability. We may schedule regular individual sessions for emotional support. We might also help patients learn relaxation techniques to help reduce pain. In addition, we hold a weekly support group for families and friends of patients to provide the opportunity to talk about common concerns and share practical solutions. Finally, we may perform a neuropsychological evaluation to pinpoint strengths and weaknesses in areas such as memory, attention, problem solving, and reasoning ability.

Based on the rehabilitation psychologist's assessment, we will make recommendations as to how the rehabilitation team can build on a patient's current strengths and work toward discharge. Assessment and treatment is available in Spanish, as well as English.
