Special Services for Parents and Children

New Parent Warmline
Every mother who delivers a baby at St. Vincent's receives a call from a parent educator.  This is an opportunity to assess the mother's and baby's well-being, screen for post-partum depression and acquaint the mother with the appropriate parenting resources.

Family Resource Room
For 10 hours each week, our Parent Education Program staffs a drop-in center near our pediatric and obstetrics and gynecologic services.  While their children play, parents have the opportunity to ask questions, exchange information and observe their children in directed activities.

Eight-Week Peer Group for Parents of Newborns, Older Babies and Toddlers
Our Parent Education Program provides opportunities for new parents to meet each other and exchange experiences and information.  Each session features a presentation on child development and allows time for parents to discuss their concerns with each other and with parent educators.

Child Life Program
This program attends to the emotional and developmental needs of hospitalized children and minimizes the fear associated with hospitalization.  Play provides opportunity for children to gain a greater sense of control and normalize the hospital experience.  Child Life also provides services to children in the neonatal intensive care unit, outpatient settings, emergency department and ambulatory surgery unit.
