Harrison, New York (March 25, 2006)-The Auxiliary Board of St. Vincent's Hospital Westchester is seeking nominations for its annual Youth Award program. The program honors area high school students whose volunteer service best exemplifies the hospital's mission of serving all in need with respect, integrity, compassion and excellence, especially the poor.

Sophomores, juniors or seniors from participating high schools will be honored with a certificate and letter of achievement documenting their service. 'Throughout the 14 years the Auxiliary has given Youth Awards, our student honorees have consistently demonstrated a compassion and selflessness through volunteer service that has positively impacted numerous lives,' said Marie Silverman Marich, co-president of the Auxiliary.

A student who has contributed a minimum of ten hours of service at St. Vincent's Hospital Westchester or elsewhere can be nominated by a high school administrator, faculty member and/or the students themselves. The nomination forms are now available that provide for a detailed description of the student's volunteer service. Nominations must be certified and submitted by a school official in order to be considered for an award. Nominations must be submitted to St. Vincent's Westchester by April 21.

An awards reception will be held on Tuesday, May 16 at 4:00 p.m. at St. Vincent's Hospital Westchester for winners, family members and representatives from the students' schools.

St. Vincent's Hospital Westchester has served the mental health and chemical dependency needs of the county with distinction for over 125 years. The hospital offers comprehensive inpatient and outpatient services for children, adolescents, adults and their families.

Saint Vincent Catholic Medical Centers is one of the New York metropolitan area's most comprehensive health care organizations, serving nearly 600,000 people annually. Saint Vincent's was established in 2000 as a result of the merger of Catholic Medical Centers of Brooklyn and Queens, Saint Vincents Hospital and Medical Center of New York and Sisters of Charity Healthcare in Staten Island. Sponsored by the Roman Catholic Bishop of Brooklyn and the president of the Sisters of Charity of New York, Saint Vincent's serves as the academic medical center of New York Medical College in New York City.

The system includes six hospitals: Mary Immaculate Hospital, Queens; St. John's Queens Hospital; St. Vincent's Hospital Manhattan; St. Vincent's Hospital Staten Island; Bayley Seton Hospital, Staten Island; and St. Vincent's Hospital Westchester. Resources include over 2,500 physicians, four skilled nursing facilities, a system-wide home care service, a hospice and over 20 ambulatory care sites which provide a broad array of medical, psychiatric and substance abuse services. In 2005, Saint Vincent's recorded over 82,000 inpatient discharges, more than 1,000,000 outpatient visits, and nearly 650,000 home care visits. Its emergency rooms, which include three Level 1 trauma centers, received 240,000 visits in that same year, while Saint Vincent's is the largest private provider of EMS services in the New York City Fire Department's 9-1-1 service. In 2003, St. Vincent's Midtown (formerly St. Clare's Hospital) became affiliated with the healthcare system.
