St. Vincent's Hospital Manhattan's Chinese inpatient unit helps Chinese patients and their families feel as comfortable and secure as possible during their stay with us.
The unit surrounds patients in an ambiance that makes them feel at home. Signage and tent cards are posted in Chinese; Chinese paintings decorate the walls; Chinese newspapers and television shows are available, and Chinese food selections, including conge, appear on the daily menu.
As important as these amenities are, they are supportive to the unit's most important feature - our Chinese-speaking staff, which includes hospitalists, registered nurses, technicians and clerks. We understand the benefits - both clinical and psychological -- that patients reap when they are able to communicate with their caregivers in their own language. The peace of mind they gain from knowing their concerns are completely understood is beyond measure.
St. Vincent's has had the honor of serving New York's Chinese community for more than 30 years, and we have made it a practice to work closely with community leaders to implement programs and services to benefit that community. This unit is the culmination of those efforts, and it is one of which we are extremely proud.
