John J. Conley Department of Ethics

The mission of the John J. Conley Department of Ethics is to teach and conduct research in bioethics, and to serve as a resource in clinical ethics for Saint Vincent Catholic Medical Centers, particularly at St. Vincent's Hospital Manhattan.  The department's ethical endeavors are founded upon concern for the poor and the vulnerable and respect for the dignity of the human person.  The department is committed to maintaining the highest possible standards of scholarly excellence in its teaching and research, but maintains a practical, clinical orientation in its academic and service missions, bridging the gap between theory and practice.

The John J. Conley Department of Ethics is closely linked to the Bioethics Institute at New York Medical College in Valhalla, NY. The Bioethics Institute is the site at which undergraduate medical student teaching, faculty development, research ethics, and health policy research are conducted.
