Our expert staff uses advanced monitoring equipment and computer technologies, combining audiovisual and EEG monitoring, to determine whether patients are experiencing loss of consciousness or behavioral changes from epileptic seizures or from other causes. This program also provides monitoring for therapeutic interventions and for seizure localization in epilepsy surgery evaluations. Once this area is localized, the team works closely with the patient's referring physician to identify the best course of treatment, which may include anti-epileptic medications, changes in lifestyle, or surgery.
We evaluate both pediatric and adult patients for anywhere from a one to a five-day inpatient stay.
Patients who experience the following symptoms or clinical issues will benefit from our program:
- Seizures that are not controlled with available medications
- Troublesome side effects of anti-epileptic drugs
- Diagnostic uncertainties, whose answers will profoundly influence therapy:
Is it a seizure? Is it a partial or generalized seizure?
- Changes in mental status, dissociative or fugue states
- Syncope or signs of impaired consciousness without established cause
- Paroxysmal movements
- Nocturnal episodes of behavioral change
