Training in cardiovascular disease at Saint Vincent
Catholic Medical Centers ensures experience at a university tertiary care center
as well as experience at primary and secondary care institutions.
In addition, exposure to both private and hospital
service patients is an invaluable experience. Each category presents a
distinct challenge as well as a broad spectrum of disease. All patient are
considered teaching patients in our training program regardless of socioeconomic
or payer class.
The three track system is designed to have all fellows
regardless of track spend at least 50% of their time during the course of three
years at St. Vincent's Hospital-Manhattan, designated the tertiary care center,
primary training site, and the remaining time at one other site. This
provides close supervision and enhanced continuity of training in contrast to
having fellows rotate through four different institutions.
The following is an outline of the program and the track
system:
St. Vincent's - Manhattan / Our Lady of Mercy
Track 10 fellows - 3 year Track 3 fellows - 4th year Interventional
Cardiology
Saint Vincent's Manhattan - Queens Track 6
fellows
St. Vincent's Manhattan - Staten Island Track 6
Fellows
Total fellowship complement for the three year Track Program - 22
fellows
Rotations include cardiac catheterization, non-invasive
cardiology, electrophysiology, non-laboratory clinical rotations (CCU, Consults)
and research.
We take a comprehensive approach to cardiovascular care
and offer the full spectrum of services to prevent and treat this disease.
St. Vincent's Hospital Manhattan, our flagship hospital, offers the most
advanced diagnostic and treatment procedures available. Our internationally
recognized physicians regularly present to peer groups throughout the world, and
our nurses and technicians are at the top of their profession. Our
technologically advanced cardiac center is well equipped with several
catheterization suites, a new electrophysiology laboratory, new telemetry beds
and beautifully appointed areas for ambulatory surgery preparation, patient
recovery, family waiting and conference.
