Community Residences and Transitional Apartments


Referrals to any of these community-based programs are initiated by sending referral material (including HRA-2010 E housing application) to: Referral Coordinator, Residential Services, 75 Vanderbilt Ave., 5th floor, Staten Island, NY 10304 or by faxing the information to 718-818-5203. All programs accept Medicaid, SSI/SSA, public assistance or self pay.

Community Residences for Special Populations
Chait Residence is an innovative transitional residence designed for adults who are dually diagnosed with both mental illness and chemical addiction (MICA). The program is modeled on a modified therapeutic concept, which uses a three-tier approach to recovery and psychiatric stabilization. The program provides 24-hour supervision with comprehensive, structured and therapeutic programs to prepare clients for more independent living.

The Sister Anne Mary Regan Residence provides a structured, supervised environment for chemically dependent women making the transition to abstinent living. The program provides 24-hour care and a short-term transitional residence to individuals who have potential for restoration to independent living in recovery.

The Tompkins Residence is a 24-bed geriatric residence for individuals with mental illness who are older than 45 years of age. The program offers 24-hour supervision with comprehensive, structured and therapeutic activities. Special attention is given to medical issues and coordination of medical and psychiatric medications.

Licensed Apartment Programs
Adults with serious mental illness are placed in apartments located within the Staten Island community. The Licensed Apartment Program is a transitional program in which residents live with one or two roommates and staff provide independent living skills training, case management and support to clients up to seven days a week, depending on client need, with the goal of moving into permanent, independent housing.
