The Staff
The neurology faculty is comprised of a core of Board Certified adult and pediatric neurologists, who, in addition to general neurology, have advanced advance training in numerous subspecialties including cerebrovascular disease, adult and pediatric epilepsy, neuromuscular disease, rehabilitation medicine, infectious disease, multiple sclerosis, pain management, and neuro-ophthalmology. In addition, affiliations and formal rotations at Maimonides Medical Center, New York University, and Metropolitan Hospital provide residents the opportunity to train with some of the best academic neurologists in New York City.
The Teaching Program
Supervised clinical care is the foundation of the residency training. The majority of the first year is spent on the adult inpatients service with three one-month rotations in neurosurgery/neuro-intensive care, neuro-radiology, and on the stroke service.
In the second year, residents assume a greater degree of responsibility and function as the chief of the inpatient service. The majority of the year is spent away for the inpatient ward, with rotations in pediatric neurology, neuromuscular disease and EMG, epilepsy and EEG, and as the neurology consult liaison.
Senior neurology residents continue to serve as floor chief, consult liaison and have additional rotations in psychiatry, movement disorders, neuro-ophthalmology, pain management, and electives of their choice.
Residents attend a twice-weekly adult neurology continuity clinic and follow their own patients throughout all three years of training.
The educational curriculum consists of required and elective clinical rotations, annual and semi-annual courses, and weekly conferences.
The following courses and conferences supplement the clinical education experience and ensure didactic teaching in subspecialty areas of neurology include:

Attendance is mandatory at all conferences. Attendance is taken via a sign in and a 70% attendance is expected of all residents. To allow for optimal attendance Thursdays are a designated education day. All residents return weekly from outside rotations, there are no scheduled ambulatory clinics or formal inpatient rounds in the morning, and with exception of emergency coverage residents are excused from clinical responsibilities. Every attempt is made to schedule didactic lectures and case conferences on Thursday mornings.
Research
Numerous opportunities exist for clinical and basic science research. St. Vincent's resident achievements have been published in prestigious journals and selected for presentation at national and international meetings including the American Academy of Neurology.
