Annual Angelus Gala Headlined by NY Giants QB Eli Manning

-- Over One Thousand Attendees Raise More Than $1.6 Million Towards Hospital's Mission And Honor Exceptional Individuals --

SEPTEMBER 25, 2008 (NEW YORK) - St. Vincent's Hospital Manhattan held its annual Angelus Award Gala on Tuesday night at Pier 60 of Chelsea Piers, hosting 1,000 guests and raising more than $1.6 million towards the hospital's mission to provide compassionate medical care regardless of a patient's ability to pay. New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning was on hand to auction a football clinic that he will host at Giant's Stadium to benefit the hospital.

"St. Vincent's rich history of providing healthcare to New Yorkers is most notable for our staff's commitment to our mission of compassionate caring," said Henry Amoroso, President and CEO of Saint Vincent Catholic Medical Centers. "Our supporters make it possible for St. Vincent's to continue this work and further our service to the city as we plan for a new, green, 21st Century hospital."

"The Angelus Award Gala is a time to celebrate those individuals who have made extraordinary contributions to the hospital and embody the spirit of St. Vincent's," said Alfred E. Smith IV, Chairman, Saint Vincent Catholic Medical Centers Board. "It is through their efforts and the generosity of those in attendance that St. Vincent's has flourished through the years."

The annual Angelus Award Gala is St. Vincent's most prestigious fund-raising event. The football clinic was auctioned off with a winning bid of $35,000.

The Gala also featured a video tribute to all of the outstanding people that make up the Saint Vincent's community. Click Here to download the video.

About the Awardees

The Angelus Award, St. Vincent's most esteemed honor, was presented to St. Vincent's Board Member T.K. Duggan, managing principal of Durham Asset Management LLC, a global, event-driven distressed debt and special situations asset manager, founded by Mr. Duggan in 2002. The Angelus Award is presented to an individual who embodies the spirit of St. Vincent's and is awarded on the basis of one's commitment to excellence in healthcare. Mr. Duggan is actively involved in promoting the hospital's mission through his work on the board and his personal commitment to philanthropy, including his donation of a football clinic with Eli Manning to 12 inner-city children after successfully bidding on the clinic at the 2007 Angelus Awards.

The Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Award was presented to Sister Angelica Marie Troy, volunteer at St. Vincent's Hospital Manhattan. This award is presented to a Sister of Charity who emulates Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton as an advocate for the sick, the poor and the abandoned.  Sr. Angelica started her career at St. Vincent's as an intern in the pharmacy, and became invaluable during her later years as the department's purchasing agent. Even after her retirement, she continues to carry on the mission by volunteering her time every morning to her former colleagues in the pharmacy. Sr. Angelica has given her time to many worldly causes throughout the years by traveling to war-torn countries to serve the suffering and less fortunate, but she still walks the halls of St. Vincent's in her devotion to the mission and her continued emulation of the works of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton.

The Saint Vincent de Paul Distinguished Physician Award was given to James Robilotti, MD, chief of gastroenterology at St. Vincent's Hospital Manhattan. The honor is bestowed upon a physician whose philosophy of patient care reflects the healing ministry of Saint Vincent de Paul, the hospital's namesake. Dr. Robilotti was named chief of gastroenterology in 1994, and he is part of a family tradition at St. Vincent's that includes more than 100 years of medical service. He has been recognized by New York Magazine as one of New York's best doctors in the field of gastroenterology. He has played an integral role in shaping St. Vincent's gastroenterology department, including the establishment of a fellowship program that is marked by excellence and dedication to the hospital's mission. Outside of his commitment to the hospital's mission, he also played an important role in helping to form healthcare delivery in the city of New York through his leadership positions with the New York Gastroenterological Association and the Caring Community, and a strong relationship with the Mary Manning Walsh Home.
