-- Event honors contributions of hospital staff to compassionate patient care; over 1,000 attendees raise more than $1.3 million --

OCTOBER 26, 2007 (NEW YORK) - St. Vincent's Hospital Manhattan held its annual Angelus Award Gala on Wednesday night at Pier 60 of Chelsea Piers, hosting over 1,000 guests and raising more than $1.3 million towards the hospital's mission to provide compassionate medical care regardless of a patient's ability to pay. New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning, 'Cancer Vixen' author Marisa Acocella Marchetto, and the Most Reverend Nicholas DiMarzio, PhD, DD, Bishop of Brooklyn were among the notable guests at the event. Guests and staff also celebrated recently announced plans to build a new, technologically advanced, 'green' hospital across from its current location on 7th Avenue in Greenwich Village.

'Throughout its long, storied history, St. Vincent's has ensured that no patient walks alone through their time of need,' said Henry Amoroso, President and CEO of Saint Vincent Catholic Medical Centers. 'The generosity of those attending the Angelus Gala will help us continue that mission of caring and love.'

'I believe deeply in St. Vincent's dedication to exceptional health care for New Yorkers,' said Alfred E. Smith IV, Board Chairman of Saint Vincent Catholic Medical Centers. 'It is an historic facility with more history to make as we build a state-of-the-art hospital for the 21st century.'

The annual Angelus Award Gala is St. Vincent's Hospital Manhattan's most prestigious fund-raising event. A football clinic at Giants' Stadium with Eli Manning for 10 children was auctioned off, with a winning bid of $25,000. The more than $1.3 million raised at the event tripled the amount raised in 2006.

About the Awardees

The Angelus Award, St. Vincent's most esteemed honor, was presented to former CEO Guy Sansone, Managing Director at Alvarez & Marsal, a global professional services firm, where he heads the Healthcare Industry Group. The Angelus Award is presented to an individual who embodies the spirit of St. Vincent's and is awarded on the basis of one's commitment to excellence in healthcare. As Chief Executive Officer and Chief Restructuring Officer at Saint Vincent Catholic Medical Centers during its recent bankruptcy, Mr. Sansone guided the institution through a successful reorganization process and initiated plans to build a new St. Vincent's Hospital Manhattan. He is set to join the board of Saint Vincent Catholic Medical Centers in November.

'With our new focus, we must build upon the momentum that has emerged from our restructuring and towards our goal of building a new state of the art ‘green' hospital,' said Mr. Sansone.

The Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Award was presented to Sister Marianne Robertson, RN, Nursing Administration Coordinator at St. Vincent's Hospital Manhattan. This award is presented to a Sister of Charity who emulates Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton as an advocate for the sick, the poor and the abandoned.

Sister Marianne first worked for St. Vincent's Hospital Westchester as a registered nurse, caring for the mentally ill. She soon left the hospital and entered the Sisters of Charity Novitiate. Later, she was assigned to St. Vincent's Hospital Manhattan as a staff nurse in the Reiss Pavilion. After that, Sister Marianne was appointed to the Faculty of St. Vincent's Hospital School of Nursing, once teaching classes exceeding 160 students.

The Saint Vincent de Paul Distinguished Physician Award was given to Godfrey C. Burns, MD, Chief of Nephrology at St. Vincent's Hospital Manhattan. The honor is bestowed upon a Doctor of Medicine whose philosophy of patient care reflects the healing ministry of Saint Vincent de Paul, the hospital's namesake.

Dr. Burns was appointed Chief of Nephrology in 1975. He has been recognized by New York Magazine as one of New York's best doctors in the field of nephrology eight times. Dr. Burns has authored numerous articles in the area of HIV kidney disease, and is considered a national authority in the field. He has also received the St. Vincent's Department of Medicine 'Teacher Of The Year Award' and has received the Excellence in Teaching award while associate professor of medicine at New York Medical College.
