St. Vincent's Patient Marisa Marchetto Profiled as "New Yorker of the Week"

NY1 featured Cancer Vixen author and breast cancer survivor Marisa Marchetto her fundraising efforts through the Cancer Vixen Fund at St. Vincent's, which recently sponsored a day of free mammograms at the cancer center where more than 200 women were screened. Marisa founded the Cancer Vixen Fund to help uninsured and women get access to breast health resources. Dr. Christopher Mills, chairman of surgery at St. Vincent's, was interviewed about the importance of Marisa's work in promoting early detection. (NY1, October 31, 2008)
 
 The Landmark Preservation Commission Votes in Favor of New Hospital Plans
 The Landmarks Preservation Commission voted to allow St. Vincent's Hospital to proceed with plans to build a new, state-of-the-art hospital on the site of the O'Toole Building. St. Vincent's President and CEO Henry Amoroso was interviewed on the decision and explained one of the many reasons why the hospital's current facilities are inadequate. (NY1, October 29, 2008)
 
 St. Vincent's Celebrates National Mammography Day with Free Mammograms
CW 11 reported live from St. Vincent's Comprehensive Cancer Center to urge women to take advantage of free mammograms being offered in honor of National Mammography Day. Cancer Vixen author and breast cancer survivor Marisa Marchetto was on hand to have her yearly mammogram as Dr. Steven Sferlazza talked about the importance of being screened. The free screenings were sponsored by the Cancer Vixen Fund at St. Vincent's. (CW 11, October 17, 2008)
 
 Swiss Re Center for Emergency Education Debuts at St. Vincent's Hospital Manhattan
NBC Channel 4 reported on the grand opening of St. Vincent's Swiss Re Center for Emergency Education. The state-of-the-art center will allow St. Vincent's to carry out high-tech training for the city's first responders, building on the tradition of more than 160 years of emergency medicine at St. Vincent's. (WNBC, September 29, 2008)

 "Cancer Vixen" Named a Hero

NBC Channel 4 interviewed Marisa Acocella Marchetto, author of the graphic memoir Cancer Vixen, about her battle with breast cancer for the "Stand Up to Cancer" campaign. Marisa talked about her experience and how it inspired her fundraising activities in collaboration with St. Vincent's Comprehensive Cancer Center to fund mammograms for women who are uinsured or underinsured.  Eli Manning Hosts Football Clinic to Benefit St. Vincent's Hospital Manhattan
New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning hosted a football clinic for 12 lucky school children at the Giants Stadium facilities after he generously donated the time to St. Vincent's as a live auction item for the hospital's annual fundraiser, the Angelus Awards. The winning bidder, St. Vincent's board member T.K. Duggan, donated the clinic back to the hospital for use by local school children. Click the picture at left to play the video.
