Dr.  Saltman serves as an attending cardiothoracic surgeon at St. Vincent's Hospital Manhattan.  He holds the academic appointment of associate professor of surgery at the State University of New York, Downstate Medical Center, and is board certified in general and thoracic surgery, in advanced trauma life support and as a medical examiner.

Dr. Saltman earned his medical degree from Columbia University's College of Physicians and Surgeons.  He subsequently completed internship and residency training programs at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, a research fellowship at Harvard Medical School and as a resident and chief resident in cardiothoracic surgery at Deaconess.

 A noted scholar, investigator and author, Dr. Saltman is regularly invited to present to colleagues at various symposia throughout the country, has had nearly 50 articles published in peer-reviewed journals and has served as an invited reviewer for some of the top cardiothoracic publications, including Annals of Thoracic Surgery, Journal of Heart Valve Disease and Pacing and clinical Electrophysiology.   

Dr. Saltman is well known for his work in the field of surgical ablation for atrial fibrillation, having developed and practiced a new procedure for the closed-chest, beating-heart treatment of this very troublesome rhythm problem.
