Pancreas and Biliary Center
New Water Jet Technology to Treat Gastric Cancer Available for the First Time in Manhattan at St....
St. Vincent's Hospital Manhattan announced today that it will offer a more precise technology to...

The Pancreas and Biliary Center is focused on treating patients with pancreatic cancer, bile duct cancers, and other disorders of the biliary system and pancreas. The Center provides patients with access to an experienced team of physicians who specialize in diagnosing and treating these disorders and state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment, offering patients the best chance at a positive treatment outcome.

The Center's staff includes an experienced team of medical specialists including gastroentologists, radiologists and endoscopists. By providing coordinated care in one central location - a unified diagnostic, treatment and educational center - patients receive access to every resource and the highest quality of care.

Late detection is a key factor in the high mortality rate associated with pancreatic cancer. Due to the location of the pancreas and late onset of symptoms, tumors and other abnormalities in this area are often difficult to diagnosis.

That is why the Center also has most sophisticated equipment available for diagnosing cancerous tumors in this area of the body. Patients are offered several options for diagnosis:

  • Endoscopic ultrasound (EUS): uses sound waves to produce images of the pancreas and the surrounding structures, and is more effective and reliable than CT scans in diagnosing and staging this type of cancer
  • Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatogrophy (E.R.C.P.):  allows the physician to directly visualize the biliary and pancreatic ducts, allowing immediate diagnosis and therapeutic intervention.
  • Fine Needle Aspiration of pancreatic cysts.

The Pancreas and Biliary Center's diagnostic excellence is teamed with the most up-to-date surgical and medical treatment options. For more information on the Center, please call 212-604-6822 or email NYPanBilCTR@svcmcny.org.
