Eligibility and Methods of Payment

To be eligible for hospice care, a patient will...

  • Live in the five boroughs of New York City
  • Be living with an advanced illness, including non-cancer diseases, with the possibility of limited life expectancy
  • Wish to continue to live at home
  • Choose to forego dramatic therapy and multiple invasive procedures
  • Wish to focus on alleviating symptoms
  • Have a physician who is willing to manage care with the hospice team (or to turn over care to the hospice medical director and team, if the patient and physician prefer)

Pax Christi Hospice will bill the insurance companies of patient who have coverage for hospice services. We will initiate a financial resource assessment for those who do not have coverage. Co-payments and deductibles will, of course, continue to be the responsibility of the patient. No one will ever be denied service solely because of inability to pay.

Pax Christi Hospice is licensed by the New York State Department of Health, accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations, and approved for participation in both Medicare and Medicaid.
