Pax Christi volunteers are recruited from among the general public, but are often family members who have experienced losses themselves, and been helped by Pax Christi Hospice. Program volunteers help with office work, attend community events to offer community health education and marketing help, and, of course, visit patients and families in support and respite roles. Pax Christi Hospice volunteers participate in a minimum of eight hours of structured training, through which they gain skills in offering support and companionship to hospice patients and their families. Sympathy and empathy, properly channeled through basic counseling principles, can be a powerful force in the lives of hospice patients and their families. If you would like to serve as a Pax Christi Hospice volunteer, call us at (212) 995-6480 (for Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens and the Bronx), or at (718) 876-1022 (for Staten Island).
