Maxwell Institute's John Wallace Wins Lifetime Achievement Award

Tuckahoe, New York. In recognition of his faithful service to addiction prevention and treatment, the National Association of Addiction Treatment Providers (NAATP) recently honored John Wallace Ph.D., Director of the Maxwell Institute, by awarding him the 2009 Nelson J. Bradley Life Time Achievement Award. Previous award winners have included President Gerald Ford and Betty Ford, Tipper Gore, Sen. Harold Hughes, and the late Sen. Paul Wellstone.
Dr. Wallace received the award at the NAATP annual conference, May 17-20, where he also was keynote speaker. This conference draws premiere addiction treatment providers from around the globe to discuss important treatment issues and to showcase innovative resources and treatment programs.
His keynote address was entitled "The Two Cultures of Chemical Dependence Treatment and Research: Time for Reconciliation.' The audience was comprised of NAATP members from 325 national and international addiction treatment centers.
Before assuming the leadership of the Maxwell Institute, Dr. Wallace held professorships at Stanford University and the University of California, authored and edited several major reports to the United States Congress on Alcohol and Health and served as Director of Chemical Dependence Treatment Services at St. Vincent's Hospital, Westchester
