June 5, 2008 NEW YORK, NY -Henry Amoroso, President and CEO of Saint Vincent Catholic Medical Centers today welcomed Justin Yu to his role as the President of the Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association (CCBA). Mr. Yu, a resident of Chinatown, has been active in the community for more than 30 years.
'St. Vincent's has a long history of working with the Chinese community to provide high quality care in a healing environment. I look forward to working with Mr. Yu to further strengthen that relationship, especially as we work to build a new St. Vincent's to provide the most technologically advanced medical care to the residents of Chinatown,' said Henry Amoroso.
Mr. Amoroso also presented Mr. Yu with a donation of almost $4,000 for the China earthquake relief efforts. In the long tradition of St. Vincent's supporting communities in need, the hospital collected emergency donations that will help provide short-term relief and long-term support through supplies, technical assistance and other resources. The CCBA is organizing funds to be distributed in China through the American Red Cross.
St. Vincent's also shared three drawings to CCBA from school children at PS 130 expressing the student's support to children in China affected by the earthquake. St. Vincent's social workers led an art project where 500 school children, mostly Chinese-Americans, drew and wrote messages as a way to express their feelings about the event.
St. Vincent's and the CCBA have a long-standing history of working collaboratively together. CCBA helped lead the effort to secure over 1,000 letters of support from area residents for the new hospital. Later this month, St. Vincent's will hold its annual free prostate cancer screening at sites in Chinatown including the CCBA offices.
