Dr. Akram Boutros To Act As Interim Chief Medical Officer For

New York, NY, January 28, 2009 - Saint Vincent Catholic Medical Centers today announced that it has acquired the consulting services of Akram Boutros, MD, FACHE to function as Interim Chief Medical Officer for the system.

'Saint Vincent's welcomes Dr. Akram Boutros. He is an excellent clinician and administrator, with a strong business sense and problem-solving focus,' said Henry Amoroso, President and CEO of Saint Vincent Catholic Medical Centers. 'He will not only influence how we provide care, but also will be instrumental in developing a strong partnership with our medical staff to meet the ever-evolving clinical, competitive, and fiscal challenges. We are very fortunate to have him join us at this exciting time in our history.'

In his new position, Dr. Boutros will provide leadership in all areas of clinical service, including physician support and development, patient safety initiatives, best practices in patient care, and clinical performance improvement across the organization, including the system's flagship St. Vincent's Hospital Manhattan.

Dr. Boutros formerly served as Executive Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer for St. Francis Hospital-The Heart Center in Roslyn, NY, and Executive Vice President, Chief Medical Officer, and Chief Operating Officer of South Nassau Communities Hospital in Oceanside, NY.

An executive with more than 20 years clinical and management experience leading hospitals and healthcare operations, Dr. Boutros is recognized for his visionary thinking, execution skills, and ability to foster teamwork.

'I have known Dr. Boutros for over 20 years and have the greatest respect for his accomplishments and his commitment to developing clinical programs and resources for St. Vincent's Hospital and its physicians,' explained Dr. Armand Cacciarelli, President of the Medical Staff at St. Vincent's Hospital Manhattan.

Dr. Boutros assists healthcare organizations in improving their operational, clinical, and financial performance. His hallmark is rapid identification of critical goals and organizational success factors that lead to strategies that achieve and sustain competitive advantage.

Dr. Boutros earned a bachelor's degree in biology and chemistry at St. John's University, and his medical degree from SUNY Health Sciences Center at Brooklyn. He completed a residency program in internal medicine at Winthrop-University Hospital in New York. Dr. Boutros is a graduate of Harvard Business School's Advanced Management Program, and guest lecturer at several prestigious business schools.
