New York, NY, October 27, 2008 - Dr. Antonio Urbina, medical director of HIV/AIDS training at St. Vincent's HIV/AIDS Center, has been appointed to a four-year term on the President's Advisory Council on HIV/AIDS (PACHA), a committee established to provide advice, information and recommendations to the U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services on HIV/AIDS policy and programs.

'We are proud to see Dr. Urbina recognized for his expertise in the field of HIV and AIDS and congratulate him on his appointment,' said Henry Amoroso, president and CEO of Saint Vincent Catholic Medical Centers. 'He has done extraordinary work at St. Vincent's HIV/AIDS Center, and his knowledge and experience will be a tremendous asset to advocacy work on the national level.'

Dr. Urbina has helped propel the Comprehensive HIV Center, which will celebrate 20 years of service to New York City on December 2, 2008, to the forefront of HIV/AIDS prevention and the clinical management of the HIV disease. He is the principal investigator on three grants supporting education and training in the clinical management of HIV for Health Care Providers and in supporting patient care.

'It is a great honor to be selected to serve on PACHA and to help in the fight against HIV/AIDS on a national level, especially now as we are seeing a rise in new HIV infections across the country,' said Dr. Urbina. 'PACHA can play a crucial role in shaping the future of national efforts to curb the spread of new infections and improve care for those living with the HIV disease.'

The Comprehensive HIV Center at St. Vincent's serves more than 5,000 patients with HIV, making it one of the oldest and largest centers in the country. St. Vincent's has long been a leader in fighting HIV and caring for patients with compassion. Dr. Urbina's appointment is another addition to the Center's 20 years of leadership in the field of HIV/AIDS.
