August 19, 2008 NEW YORK, NY - St. Vincent's Comprehensive H.I.V. Center is sponsoring a conference on Friday, August 22nd to bring together healthcare professionals from community and government agencies to discuss issues relating to immigrant patients with H.I.V./AIDS.
During the course of the day-long conference, experts will address the full spectrum of issues healthcare providers may face while providing treatment. Topics include legal issues surrounding immigration and asylum; ending stigmas within the police force; cultural competency issues; H.I.V. counseling and testing; and the emotional/psychosocial support needs of immigrant patients with H.I.V./AIDS.
'There are a host of sensitive issues surrounding H.I.V. positive immigrants that require extra attention from healthcare providers,' said conference moderator Dr. Antonio Urbina, St. Vincent's H.I.V. Center. 'The conference will help educate healthcare professionals and enable them to provide the best possible medical and supportive care for these patients.'
