Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Chooses St. Vincent's for Research Center Designation

In a significant achievement for St. Vincent's, St. Vincent's Cystic Fibrosis Center has been designated a Therapeutics Development Center by the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. The CFF Therapeutics Development Network is a nationwide network of 18 cystic fibrosis clinical research centers that conduct clinical trials on new CF therapies. The centers work together to promote quality, safety and efficiency in CF clinical trials by centralizing and standardizing the research process. Designation as a therapeutics development center comes with a grant of $75,000 to support research activities.
St. Vincent's Cystic Fibrosis Center was established in 1977, and has cared for more than 1,300 cystic fibrosis patients from all over the world. Patients are monitored by a multidisciplinary team of health professionals with expertise in pulmonary medicine, pediatrics, social work, gastrointestinal/nutrition, physical therapy, exercise, complementary therapy, and genetic counseling. The center participates in a wide range of clinical research studies, as well as community outreach and education programs, and is a member of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation's prestigious Leadership and Learning Collaborative, which identifies best practices in cystic fibrosis pulmonary care throughout the country and implements them nationwide. Congratulations to Drs. Patricia Walker and Maria Berdella and their team for being chosen from among 95 applicant programs for membership in the CFF Therapeutics Development Network.
