Pericardial tamponade

Pericardial tamponade

Pericardial tamponade occurs when the heart is compressed because of fluid buildup in the sac that surrounds the heart (pericardium), which puts increased pressure on the heart. The increased pressure on the heart interferes with the normal filling of the heart chambers.
