Dupuytren's disease most often affects the pretendinous bands or
fascia of the hand (shown in the normal hand structure in the picture on the
left). As the disease progresses, these areas can thicken and form a ropelike
cord. Eventually, the disease can severely affect the hand's appearance and
function, causing contracture (shown in the picture on the right).
