On-Call Responsibilities

There are always two psychiatry residents on duty providing in-house, 24-hours-a-day coverage, nights and weekends, and thus each has immediate back-up available. The PGY-1 residents are on call approximately every three nights during their four months on Medicine and Neurology. The frequency of on-call decreases over the span of the residency. On Psychiatry, the PGY-1's are on call at night or on a weekend (24 hour day) averaging once per week, covering the in-patient services of the Department.

The PGY-2's provide night and weekend coverage to the emergency room and consultations to the rest of the general hospital, and are on-call approximately three times per month.

The PGY-3's are on-call to the emergency room and general hospital approximately once or twice per month. Senior residents do no in-house call, but are on duty by beeper for a week approximately once every two months.

Moonlighting is permitted with consent of the training office.
