The ophthalmology residency's extramural program has many
components:
1) The New York Consortium of Ophthalmology Residencies
A lecture series is held on Wednesday evenings from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at
the Manhattan Eye, Ear and Throat Infirmary. Guest lecturers from across the
United States present the latest clinical material.
2) The Columbia University Basic Science Course
First-year residents spend the entire month of January at Columbia
University.
3) The Armed Forces Institute of Pathology Course
Attended by second-year residents.
4) The American Academy of Ophthalmology
Senior residents attend the annual meeting.
Certainly, New York City is an extraordinary place to train. Almost every
week, there are conferences scheduled that may be of interest. The department
attempts to provide its residents with every opportunity to attend as many of
these as possible.
