Obstetrics
We provide the most advanced healthcare in the most relaxed and
compassionate manner to the women of Staten Island. Year after year, we deliver
more babies than any other hospital on the island. We generally deliver
more than 3,000 babies a year, and women who choose to do so, may deliver
their babies in our lovely, warm and homelike labor and delivery
suites.
If you or someone you love is considered
high risk, you will want to know that our Center
for Maternal/Fetal Medicine, under the direction of Michael Moretti, M.D., is staffed by high-risk
prenatal specialists who manage pregnancies where diabetes, hypertension or
genetic complications are factors. In fact, our record of caring for high-risk women and
their babies is so good that
the New York State Department of Health, Bureau of Women?s Health, named
Saint Vincent Catholic Centers a regional perinatal center for the care of
high-risk expectant mothers and their newborns? and St. Vincent?s Hospital Staten Island is
the lead facility in this venture.
In addition, to answer your questions, help you make healthy choices, and enjoy a healthy
pregnancy, we host free events throughout the year, During one of these recent events, St.
Vincent?s ?Largest Baby Shower,? more than 100 prospective and expectant moms
attended and received information on a variety of topics concerning pregnancy.
Gynecology This active service treats more
than 2,000 cases a year, including all types of major
abdominal, vaginal and gynecological oncology surgeries. Additionally,
the department maintains an antepartum testing laboratory, under the supervision
of a maternal fetal medicine specialist, where sophisticated diagnostic
techniques in the area of fetal monitoring and ultrasound, including Doppler
ultrasound are carried out daily.
