Stem Cell Transplantation

Special tertiary care services include advanced blood stem cell transplants for diseases such as multiple myeloma and innovative preoperative chemotherapy strategies for bone and soft tissue sarcomas and brain tumors. St. Vincent's has a full tissue-bank operation license from New York State for bone marrow and blood stem cell transplantation. This includes approval for the collection, processing, storage and transplantation of peripheral-blood stem cells from autogenic and allogenic donors. The program also received FACT accreditation from the Foundation for The Accreditation of Cellular Therapy for autologous (patient's own blood stem cells are obtained and used for infusion) stem cell transplantation, including collection and processing of stem cells.
