Medical Oncology Department We provide treatment on an outpatient basis, under the expert supervision of medical oncologists who are specially trained to treat specific types of cancer. Our medical oncologists create an individualized treatment plan for each patient using medications to treat malignant (cancerous) cells. The oncologists work closely with a dedicated team to support patients as they go through treatment. The Treatment Unit is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week with an expert nursing staff who can answer treatment related questions or help manage issues that may arise after a patient's scheduled treatment.
Multiple Myeloma Program The Multiple Myeloma & Transplant Program at St. Vincent's Comprehensive Cancer Center (SVCCC) is one of the leading programs in the United States for the diagnosis and treatment of multiple myeloma. Our patients travel from across the country and around the world to work with the myeloma experts at SVCCC. The Center's interdisciplinary team of hematology-oncologists, nurse practitioners, social workers, and other support staff specializes in the treatment of patients with myeloma. They also treat related diseases, including MGUS, solitary plasmacytoma, AL amyloidosis, Waldenstrom's macroglobulinemia, leukemia and lymphoma. Together, the myeloma team provides patients with clinical expertise, compassionate care and ongoing support.
Myelodysplastic Syndrome & Leukemia Under the direction of Dr. Azra Raza, a team of clinical and basic science researchers experienced in the study and treatment of Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS) is working at St. Vincent's to develop more effective therapies. The MDS Program is unique in that the team has built a national referral base for MDS treatment and research with a large enough patient population for meaningful clinical trials. Patients travel from all over the country to receive the latest and most cutting-edge therapies for their MDS, and to participate in molecular and genetic studies of their bone marrows, which sheds more light on their particular form of the disease and allows for individualized therapies.
St. Vincent's Comprehensive Cancer Center offers patients access to a team of experts who specialize in the treatment and research of hematologic malignancies including Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia, Chronic Myeloid Leukemia, Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia, and Acute Myeloid Leukemia. Clinical trials and support services are available for the benefit of our patients.
