Insurance The SVCMC prescription drug plan shall provide
prescription drugs to SVCMC house staff only, at no cost, when the prescription
is for an illness that is of an emergency nature and issued for the House Staff
Officer by the Personnel Health Service (PHS), or if the PHS is closed,
prescribed and issued by the ER, such prescription not to exceed ten (10) days
supply. All other prescriptions for house staff and their dependents shall be
available at the SVCMC pharmacy at the cost of the drug plus ten percent
(10%). The Hospital shall contribute to the VH/HSBP an amount equal
to the premium for Blue Cross/Blue Shield coverages (computed entirely at the
community rate) and the VH/HSBP shall thereupon provide equivalent coverage. The
"amount equal" shall not be decreased, and shall be increased if, and to the
extent that, Blue Cross/Blue Shield increases the premiums that the Hospital
would have paid for its House Staff Officers were the Hospital to provide such
coverage directly at the community rate. VH/HSBP, in addition to providing
suitable replacement Blue Cross/Blue Shield coverage of the type indicated from
the "amount equal," may provide such other benefits as are permitted by VH/HSBP,
such benefits to confirm to the extent possible with benefits not provided by
CIR's existing HSBP 1. The Hospital shall make monthly payments to the VH/HSBP
within thirty (30) days of the month for which contributions are due. The
Hospital shall continue to provide New York State Disability Insurance as
before. Housing Where SVCMC provides apartment
rental for House Staff Officers, such rentals may not be increased, except by
reasons of: increased costs of operation; taxes; increases mandated by law,
order, or regulations of government agency or contract or mortgage; or increases
in rent paid by SVCMC. And such increases shall be reported to the CIR together
with the reasons for such increases, pursuant to the standards set forth above.
SVCMC will continue to provide housekeeping services that are currently being
provided for House Staff Officers who are single and living in such apartments
provided by SVCMC in Parsons Manor. Coin-operated laundry machines will be
maintained and continued to be provided in Parsons
Manor. Vacation The vacation for all House
Staff Officers shall be twenty (20) working days for the period from July 1
through the following June 29th. When, due to the needs of a given service, it
is necessary to limit vacations, they may be limited to the extent of five (5)
days only per House Staff Officer, at the discretion of his/her Chairperson and
pay for lost vacation shall be granted. Anything to the contrary herein
notwithstanding, lesser vacation benefits may be provided when appropriate
Specialty Boards require lesser vacation terms, and pay for lost vacation shall
be granted. Anything to the contrary herein notwithstanding, pay in lieu of
vacation shall be provided in the case of residents serving their last year of
residence, where full House Staff coverage in the given service cannot, in the
discretion of the appropriate Chairperson, be obtained.
Uniforms SVCMC shall provide for laundering of
uniforms and shall continue its past practice with regard to furnishing
uniforms. Upon request, House Staff Officers will be issued 3/4
length lab course in lieu of jackets. All House Staff Officers in
non-surgical specialties shall be provided with two (2) cloth scrubs every
residency year.
