The service is offered at the main hospital and at the St. Vincent's Comprehensive Cancer Center which is located a few blocks away.  The cancer center is quipped with PET/CT and performs more than 1000 studies a year.

The current imaging equipment in the main hospital site include another high resolution PET/CT (due to operate in September 2005).  In addition there are three dual head gamma cameras and one single head gamma camera. Imaging review stations include Pegasys, Sun and Starcam review terminals.  A PACS is in the process of installation and is expected to be in operation by 2006.

The nuclear medicine residency program and service at St. Vincents Hospital is noted for its high standards, flexibility and its ability to perform all approved nuclear medicine procedures. The excellent equipment, staff, leadership by a well-trained group of physicians, makes this the department of choice for all nuclear medicine procedures.

Our technologists must be certified by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) and the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) as a condition of employment. This assures our patients and referring physicians of the highest quality personnel.  the section runs a one-year program for nuclear medicine technology that is accredited and accepts up to eight students per class.

Many nuclear medicine departments throughout the USA do not maintain a radiopharmacy, but we do. Our radiopharmacy is one of the few designed from the very beginning to function as such. Maintaining a radiopharmacy on the premises assures our patients and referring physicians of the highest quality of technical personnel. Its presence also encourages participation in various research projects.
