Saint Vincent Catholic Medical Centers School of Nursing

The School of Nursing was established in 1969, as the Catholic Medical Center School of Nursing. As a result of a corporate merger in 2000, it is now known as the School of Nursing of Saint Vincent Catholic Medical Centers of New York. The two-year educational program results in granting of a 64 credit Associate in Applied Science Degree in Nursing, and eligibility to sit for the NCLEX-RN professional licensing examination. The 37 nursing course credits are offered at the School of Nursing campus, while the 27 credits in liberal arts and science courses are offered at the collegiate affiliate, Queensborough Community College.

 Admission Requirements:

  • Completed Application
  • Official evidence of high school or equivalency diploma.
  • Report of standardized tests.
  • Official transcript of high school, college/post secondary school records.
  •  Recommended Minimum G.P.A. 2.50.
  • Achievement of acceptable score on Pre-Nursing Entrance Exam.
  • Personal interview.
  • Transfer Credit

Transfer credit will be granted under the following conditions:

  • Equivalent course(s) with a grade of C or better.
  • Licensed Practical Nurses requesting transfer credit must achieve a score of 65 on the National League for Nursing Mobility Profile I: Foundations of Nursing, to be eligible for credit for Self Care Needs of Clients I.
  • Licensed Practical Nurses may receive transfer credit for NU102 - Principles of Therapeutic Interaction, and NU103 - Drug Dosage Calculation in Nursing, based on achievement of a score of 80% on School of Nursing challenge exams.

Recommendations for admission and placement will be determined by the Admissions Committee. Classes are admitted once a year, in September. The application process begins in October. The school operates on an academic calendar. Class and clinical experiences are offered Monday through Friday, between 8:00 AM and 3:00 PM.

Assistance is available and awarded on the basis of financial need.
