Services Fellowship Faculty Research
The endocrine section provides consultative services and continuity of care to
inpatients and patients in the ambulatory clinics. Our faculty is
available for private patient care. The faculty is actively involved in
the medical teaching program and in the training of endocrine fellows.
Services Our endocrinology service offers
comprehensive diagnostic and treatment services for endocrine and metabolism
disorders, including treatment for:
| • Diabetes and lipid disorders |
• Pituitary disease |
| • Adrenal disorders |
• Osteoporosis |
| • Thyroid disorders |
• Thyroid cancer |
We operate an extremely active outpatient service,
treating a wide variety of endocrine disorders and care for what is likely
the largest cohort of transsexual patients in the city. In addition, we have been particularly involved
in the assessment and management of thyroid cancer and the effects of both hypothyroidism
and hyperthyroidism on vascular compliance.
Fellowship During the two-year program,
fellows, along with the supervising attending physician, provide both inpatient
and outpatient consultive service to patients with all types of endocrine
disorders. There is one fellow in each year of training and the second
year fellow is involved in a research project.

Research We are currently studying the assessment and
measurement of thyroid cancer and the effects of both hypothyroidism and
hyperthyroidism on vascular compliance. We have engaged in research
related to the adrenal gland function in HIV disease and the evaluation of
nuclear medicine imaging techniques for the assessment of thyroid cancer, and
for more than three years we have
been studying the efficacy and safety of growth hormone treatment in patients
with hypopituitarism.
