Sponsor: New York Medical College

Thank you for you interest in our neurology residency program

Overview
The Neurology Residency at St. Vincent's is a three-year training program.  With its long tradition of outstanding clinical care, teaching and research, the Neurology training is excellent preparation for future careers in both clinical practice and academic Neurology.

The program is fully accredited by the American College of Graduate Medical Education.

The teaching environment:
St. Vincent Catholic Medical Center campus is located in the heart of Greenwich Village, one of the most dynamic and culturally diverse neighborhoods in Manhattan.  The hospital is an academic medical center affiliated with New York Medical College, and is dedicated to the education of approximately 300 house staff physicians enrolled in nineteen training programs.  The hospital is one of the busiest in New York City and the only major hospital and emergency room serving the lower Westside of Manhattan.  Our neurology residents encounter and provide care to patients representing the full spectrum of neurological disease in multiple settings including a tertiary care inpatient teaching hospital, a level I Trauma Center, and one of the largest ambulatory care subspecialty clinics in the country.

The neurology daily census averages 15 adult and 5 pediatric patients with 900 annual admissions.  There are additionally over 2600 outpatient visits to the neurology subspecialty clinics and 3000 inpatient neurological consultations performed at the medical center.  St. Vincent's provides an excellent exposure to a wide variety of neurological diseases.  The neurology division is particularly strong in cerebrovascular disease, neuromuscular disease, pediatric neurology, adult and pediatric epilepsy, pain management, and HIV neurology.   In 2006 St. Vincent's was one of the first hospitals in Manhattan to receive designation by New York State as a Comprehensive Stoke Center. The division has a state of the art electrophysiology laboratory, which provides EMG, NCS, EEG, video -EEG, and intra-operative monitoring services.  The medical center has highly regarded Neurosurgery, Neuro-radiology, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, and a world-renowned department of Behavioral Health.  These very active and excellent departments are integrated in the teaching program and compliment and enhance the neurology residency training.

This combination of location, commitment to medical education, patient diversity and a multi-disciplinary approach to neurological education, make St. Vincent's Hospital Manhattan an ideal environment for learning the diagnosis and management of neurological disorders.
