Overview
St. Vincent's Hospital Manhattan offers a fully-accredited transitional
program to fulfill the educational needs of medical school graduates who:
- desire a broader base of clinical experience than is
initially provided by the program in graduate medical education of their
chosen specialty
- choose a career specialty for which the respective
program in graduate medical education requires one year of training in
fundamental clinical skills and certain specific experiences for development
of desired skills; or,
- have not completely decided on their career in medicine and wish to have
further experience in more than one medical or surgical discipline before
committing themselves to a specialty.
The objective of the transitional year is to provide the trainee with a
well-balanced graduate medical education in multiple clinical disciplines. The
program is sponsored by St. Vincent's ACGME-accredited residency training
programs, which provide the components for the transitional year education. The
program is quality-assured by an institutional coordinating committee composed
of the medical director of hospital, program director of the transitional
program and the program directors (or designees) of disciplines regularly
included in the curriculum. Suggested Electives
