Goals

Goals of the Residency Programs

The goal of each of the residency programs is to transform the student into a competent practitioner of dentistry and/or oral and maxillofacial surgery. This is accomplished by giving the resident a clinical and academic exposure that will solidify the dental school experience. The integration of sound dental and medical knowledge coupled with a broad clinical experience will prepare the resident for practice now and into the next millennium.

Future Goals of the Residency Programs

The department will continue to develop new programs to help members of the communities it serves access complete dental care.

Most recently we received a grant from the State of New York for a mobile dental van, to serve patients who have difficulty traveling to and from the dentist. It serves the elderly and foster care children.

Through grants, the department will also develop expansions at St. John's Family Health Center and Mary Immaculate Hospital. This will bring access in a timely manner to these communities of need.

The future of dental care throughout the SVCMC system is in the development stage. Out goal is to satisfy the need for comprehensive care for the communities we serve, make dental care accessible to all patients and to live the mission of SVCMC with respect, integrity, compassion and excellence to all those who come to us in need, especially the poor.
