Montgomery Douglas, MD Chair & Program
Director Dr. Douglas graduated from Cornell University Medical
College in 1986. He completed his family practice training at the University of
Rochester, NY in 1989. Dr. Douglas is board certified in family medicine; and
holds a Certificate of Added Qualifications in Geriatrics. He joined the faculty
in 1989. He is also active in obstetrics. He is the 1997-98 New York State
Family Practice Educator of the Year. Each year from 1997 to 2002 Castle
Connolly listed him as one of America's Top Doctors.
Harriet Enubuzor, MD Associate Program
Director Dr. Enubuzor graduated from University of Rochester
Medical School in 1990. She completed her family practice training at Catholic
Medical Centers (CMC) and was chief resident in 1993. Dr. Enubuzor is board
certified in family practice. She practiced at a busy affiliate of CMC, Bedford
Stuyvesant Family Health Center for 5 � years where she was Assistant Director.
Dr. Enubuzor is responsible for resident involvement in Community Oriented
Primary Care and enjoys teaching both residents and students. Her research
interest is obesity in children with emphasis on prevention. She completed a
fellowship in teaching primary care medicine in urban undeserved communities
(administered by University of California, San Diego). She is also active in
obstetrics.
Frederick Lambert, MD, MSMPH Medical Director, John S.
Hong Family Practice Center Dr. Lambert graduated from the
Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons with an MD and MPH in
199. He completed his family medicine residency at SUNY Stonybrook in 1998. He
worked as a staff physician and community preceptor at the Montefiore Medical
Group until 2005, when he joined the SVCMC faculty. From 2001-2003 he did a
part-time faculty development fellowship at the University of Massachusetts. He
is board certified in Family Medicine. He is also active in
obstetrics. Mallik Kalepu, MD, MPH Supervising
Attending Dr. Kalepu, a 1996 graduate of the CMC Residency Program
in Family Practice, completed his medical training in India at Andhra Medical
College. Following graduation, he did postgraduate training in Pediatrics and
prior to beginning his residency, he practiced in England, Jamaica (West
Indies), the Bahamas and Florida. Dr. Kalepu obtained his MPH Degree in
International Health in 1993 from the University of South Florida in Tampa.
Presently Dr. Kalepu is responsible for teaching residents, participation in
curriculum planning and design, and the Home Visit Program. He also has a
special interest in Pediatrics. He is board certified in family
practice.
Mergie Desir, MD, MPH Dr. Desir graduated from Mount Sinai School of Medicine in
1999. She completed her residency at the University of Rochester, NY, in 2002.
In 2004, she received her MPH in Health Behavior and Health Education from
University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey � School of Public Health,
and graduated from a Primary Care Health Services Research Fellowship at UMDNJ
Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, Department of Family Medicine. Dr. Desir is
Coordinator of Community Medicine training. She is also active in obstetrics.
Rajpal Chopra, MD Director, Inpatient Service
Dr. Chopra graduated from Topiwala National Medical School in India. He
completed his internal medicine residency and was chief resident at the North
General Hospital of Mt. Sinai Medical Center in 1989. He completed his endocrine
fellowship at Mt. Sinai in 1991 and joined the CMC faculty. He is board
certified in internal medicine and endocrinology; and holds a Certificate of
Added Qualifications in Geriatrics. His research interests are diabetes, lipids,
and metabolism. Dr. Chopra's primary responsibility is teaching internal
medicine within the family practice program.
Madeline Nack, LCSW Behavioral Scientist
Ms. Nack received her Masters� degree in Clinical Social Work from SUNY
Stonybrook. She did Post-Graduate Education in Marriage and Family Therapy and
went on to become an approved supervisor for the American Association for
Marriage and Family Therapy. She has worked with Family Medicine residents from
Stonybrook at Southside and Brookhaven Hospitals, and most recently was Director
of Post-Graduate Institute in Systemic Family Therapy. She maintains a private
practice psychotherapy in Huntington.
Catherine Bratton Vourkas, CSW, ACSW, BCD Behavioral
Scientist
Ms. Vourkas received her master�s in social work at Columbia University in
1978. She has completed a clinical externship in family therapy at the Ackerman
Institute in New York City. Ms. Vourkas is board-certified in clinical social
work. She coordinates the psychosocial curriculum for the department. Her
foremost research interests are family dynamic approaches to gerontology, and
the influence of culture on family healthcare delivery.
