Overview
The residency program in Obstetrics and Gynecology at St. Vincent's Catholic Medical Centers Queens hospitals is a four-year program sponsored by New York Medical College. Appointments are offered to graduates of accredited medical schools or other candidates meeting AMA specifications for approved residencies.

The residency program is one of the most progressive in the area, having set precedents in comprehensive care for women. The department offers state-of-the-art technology, innovative procedures and experienced staff. The antepartum testing unit and advanced laparoscopy service are just two examples of this dedication to women's health services.

The department participates in teaching rotating physicians from various family practice and primary care residencies in the Queens hospitals.

The department has one delivery room, two operating rooms, seven birthing rooms, 10 delivery/operating rooms, and 14 post-partum beds and external rotations at affiliated hospitals in the metropolitan region. Residents receive extensive clinical exposure and experience in caring for a variety of patients.

The department is divided into the following divisions: obstetrics, maternal-fetal medicine, gynecology, ambulatory medicine, gynecologic oncology, reproductive endocrinology and infertility. In addition to the program director and chairman, the department consists of five (5) full time attendings responsible for general obstetrics and gynecology plus all the recognized sub-specialty areas and six (6) part-time attendings.  The department also has an extensive network of voluntary attending physicians. All staff attendings are offered an academic teaching appointment at New York Medical College.

Attending rounds in both obstetrics and gynecology are conducted daily. Grand rounds occur weekly, presented by attending staff, residents, or guest lecturers. Residents in conjunction with full-time attendings conduct journal club. Each Wednesday there is a formal resident education schedule covering all areas of OB/GYN and general medicine through an interdisciplinary approach. Residents are required to present a paper on research they have performed during the course of the residency.
