The PSR24 primary
podiatric medical residency program of Saint Vincent Catholic Medical Centers Queens' department of podiatry
is a 24-month program designed to provide residents with an extensive
background and intensive clinical experience in podiatric medicine. It offers
a strong educational experience designed to prepare residents for the
general practice of podiatry and forefoot surgery. The program is a nice
entry-level program and is a pathway to the wound care/geriatric fellowship.
The PSR36 podiatric surgical residency program is also an
entry-level program, and is designed to provide residents with an extensive background
of clinical podiatry and offers an intensive training experience in both
forefoot and reconstructive rearfoot surgery. although residents work closely
with the primary podiatric medical residents, each program is separate and
distinct. Residents must complete three years of training in foot and ankle surgery.
This program is designed in strict adherence to the guidelines set forth by
the Council of Podiatric Medical Education. The curriculum, evolved over the
past years, conveys a graduated system of education, from simple forefoot to complicated
rearfoot and ankle procedures. Training includes a strong emphasis on
complicated forefoot and rearfoot cases, including flat foot reconstruction
and Charcot reconstruction with external fixationperioperative care, as well as
management of the complicated surgical patient. This program is also a
pathway to the wound care/geriatric fellowship. Residents are heavily
involved in limb salvage surgical cases.
