Daily Schedule
|
- Work rounds start promptly at 6:30 a.m. with all the
surgical team present. Every assignment for the day will be made by the chief
resident.
- The O.R. starts at 8:00 a.m., except on Wednesdays
and Thursdays because of the academic schedule. The only acceptable delays in
the operating theater are those due to emergencies.
- Floor assignments and O.R. assignments will be made
by the chief resident or his designee.
- Surgical clinic is held three times a week at Mary
Immaculate Hospital and two times a week at St. Johns Queens Hospital.
The residents are required to attend these sessions since this
represents an essential part of surgical training. Members of the teaching
staff will be present and available for teaching and consultation.
- Exit rounds are held every weekday at 5:00 p.m. and
comprise the entire surgical team. Review of the daily work, admissions and
preparation for the next day are the objectives of the rounds. If not on-call,
the residents will then be released upon completion of all floor work.
- Weekends have a separate work schedule, which is organized by the chief
residents.
