Traumatic events that can lead to post-traumatic stress disorder
Traumatic events that may lead to
post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) are usually
events that people would not normally experience in their lifetime. These may
include:
War combat.
A serious
accident.
Violent crimes, such as rape or
assault.
Terrorist attacks.
Natural disasters, such as
a fire, tornado, flood, or earthquake.
Ongoing physical or sexual
abuse.
PTSD may also develop in people who have witnessed violent acts,
including children and teens who witness domestic violence. In addition, people
who have witnessed violent acts may feel guilty about not being able to help
the victim.
